For years I started and stopped - and started and stopped - writing on the book that would eventually become THE SUN WITCH. It was a play project, one I loved - one that went nowhere. I’d get the first chapter done, and that was it. I didn’t know where to go next. I went over that first chapter again and again. Beyond that, nothing. I’m not a plotter. I sit down at the computer with a vague idea of where I’m going and I let the characters and my fingers take me wherever they wish to go. So, I had no way to work myself out of the corner I’d somehow painted myself into.
Then one day I was lying in my hammock in the backyard, thinking about these characters, and it hit me. “They’re not from here.” That was the beginning of Columbyana, an alternate world where magic is very real and emperors rule and there’s a surprise around every corner. I had no idea it would grow beyond the original trilogy, but that’s what’s happened.
UNTOUCHABLE is the seventh book in the Columbyana series. If I’d given any thought to a seventh book, as I was lying in my hammock, I probably couldn’t have gotten through the first one. Thinking that far ahead is never good for one who does not plot. I also had no idea that a child who was conceived in magic near the end of that first book, THE SUN WITCH, would return to be the hero of the seventh. Here’s a short excerpt from the prologue of UNTOUCHABLE.

After almost six years in the palace, the twins had heard many tales of their conception and birth. The stories were told in whispers and tinged with magic, and it was impossible to know what was true and what was myth. No matter how it was told, the story was an unsavory and sad one, one they did not wish to dwell upon or examine too closely. Still, they could not ignore what they heard. They did not know all, would never know all, but one aspect of the tale was unchanging.
One twin had been conceived in darkness, the other in light. One twin was destined to wrestle with darkness, while the other was born of goodness and light.
Those who knew them surely believed that Emperor Jahn, a man who gambled and occasionally drank to excess and often enjoyed the company of inappropriate women, was the twin who struggled with a darkness of the soul, while Alix, who was noble and steady and well-mannered was the twin born to light.
Only Alix knew that they were wrong.
I wish I could say I’d planned this all along, that when I wrote THE SUN WITCH I knew exactly where I was going. But I didn’t. Now and then writing a book brings as many surprises to me as it does to a reader who picks up a book and has no idea where the story will go. Some days it’s a little scary - but it’s also a lot of fun.
Happy Reading!
Linda

Linda I LOVE this series of books. I was hooked from the moment I found the Sun Witch on the shelf at walmart. I gobbled it all up and could not wait for the Moon Witch. It would be a year or two before I actually found it, and by that time I was lucky enough that the release of The Star Witch was just around the corner. Then with the second series each release date was marked on my calander. Thank goodness they were released one each month for three months. I am lucky enough to be a book reviewer for Enchanting Reviews and I was able to get Untouchable a tad early. I took it on vacation with me with the intentions of enjoying it the whole week. Well it was done by the first campfire. I can not wait for 22 nights, I do believe it is on its way to me right now :) I love these books! Keep them coming!!!
Hi Linda,
Awesome "blurb" for the book. I want! I will add it to the "to be bought" list. I love the #'s -book 1 pregnancy/child in #7's book. I love the whole 7th child of a 7th child lore. Definitely checking this series out more!
Thank you,
Susan B.

Glad to see you here today, your a new author for me. I'm always looking for new reads and Sun Witch sounds like something I would enjoy!
Hi Linda! It was so much fun finally meeting you at RWA. The Sun Witch was the very first romance novel I read, and it launched me on a mad love affair with the genre. I owe you many many thanks! Can't wait to read UNTOUCHABLE!
Hi Linda,
You're new to me also, but I love Paranormals, so your books I'd enjoy. Liked the excerpt about UNTOUCHABLE.
Hi Linda!
Your books sound like they're right up my alley. :)
Is it ever great to hear from a published author that you don't always have the whole book planned out before you write it! I've always thought that maybe I'm the only one who thinks that way. Thank you for sharing.
Best, Judi =)
I always think books are more fun if "they're not from here". I've always loved the fantasy and magic that books have to offer. Your Columbyana sounds like somewhere I would like to visit.
Hello everyone! It's great to be here and to hear so many nice comments to start the morning. Thanks! I'll be around this morning and later this afternoon (and on the road in between) so if there are any questions ask away!
Linda
Hi Linda,
Your Columbyana series is one of my favorites! I read The Moon Witch first, because Sun wasn't there, and loved it. I was so happy when I discovered the second trilogy and now the third! Can't wait for 22 Nights.
You know, I was wondering, was 22 Nights titled something else a few months ago. I did a blog when I learned the release date of Untouchable. I went to your website and 22 Nights is not what I listed as the title for the second book. I can't think what it was now. I wasn't sure if I completely zoned out when I listed the second book with the title and then later saw that it was 22 Nights!
But, more so, I am happy you sat on your hammock thinking about these characters :).
Amy -- 22 Nights has had a couple of titles. Originally I titled it Untamable. or Untameable. Both are correct spellings, and it certainly fit. The third book (March 2009) was originally Unbreakable. Nice and neat, three UN titles. My editor wasn't crazy about Untameable, and suggested Unforgettable. It suited the story also, so I said sure. We're still good with the un-un-un. Then, much later than this sort of thing is supposed to happen, my editor called. Someone at the company had suggested 22 Nights. We both loved it, and even though some news (and the Untouchable ARCs) had already gone out with the title Unforgettable we decided to make the change. Naturally this caused confusion. :-/ Then we decided we should change the third book title also, because Un, 22 Nights, and another Un just had less impact and was a little weird. That third book became Bride by Command.
More details than anyone wants, I imagine, but there's the story. I really love the title 22 Nights, so I consider the confusion an acceptable annoyance. :-)
Linda
Thank you, Linda, for taking the time to share. Not too much detail at all!!
I just checked my post I did and it was Unforgettable that I listed. I love all the titles.
Linda, that's exactly why I write - it's the ultimate thrill ride. You don't know where you're going, when you'll get there, or how many highs and lows you will have to endure along the way. But that's what makes it so fun!
Linda - I absolutely LOVE this series. I've shared them with my sisters and they enjoy them too. I'm really looking forward to reading this next trilogy. I have Untouchable and Im spending my weekend with it. Thanks for all you do, I love the worlds you create !!
Good Morning Everyone!
Firstly, Thank You so much Linda for coming to blog with us today. The old saying that you should never judge a book by it's cover is totally wrong in your case. Your covers are delicious and only the icing on the cake. The stories are the delicious layers inside the cake, in my case chocolate. ;) YUMM!
Secondly, morning all and yes I know it's almost 10 a.m. on the East Coast but hey I'm not an early bird. Gotta go make some coffee to wake up. Anyone want some? Today's flavor is Pumpkin Spice.
Well I hope you all have a wonderful day and stay safe!!
huggs,
Terra
Hey there Linda,
you would be a new author for me. I love reading new and different stuff.
Count me in!
Friend of mine LOVES your books and has recommended them to me. However, whenever I go to borders I can never find the first book.
The series, especially from what I'm told about it by my eager friend (she knows my tastes), is one I know I'll like
Hi Linda,
So great to have you here!! I have several of your books in line to be read...the 3 witch books & Prince of Magic. Looks like I'm missing one so I'll have to go looking for it. I'm the type that likes to read all of the authors' books one right after each other. That way I remember the storyline better. Especially as many books that I read. Sometimes it's hard to remember, which gives one a great reason to revisit the original books! Which books am I missing in the series?
Thanks for visiting!
Marge
Hi Linda,
your books sound like books for me! You're a new author for me, but I'm always looking for new paranormal books... And I love finding new series with many books, I only hope I'll find the first one...
Hi Linda! Your books some awesome. I haven't read anything by you before, but you have already been added to my wish list for the next trip to the store.
Your books are great I love this whole series. I try to get your books as soon as I see them.
Some reason the blog ate my comment, but I came back to repost. I've been a quiet but fanatic fan for a while, which I am always grateful to my library when I came across the books, the Sun Witch and the Moon Witch (which is my favorite) and then I did a massive search for the Star with I am happy to say I have in my collection of favorites. Thank you so much for writing them. Now I just need to find the others.
I haven't started this series yet, but I love discovering new authors and finding out that their voice and the world that they created works so well for me. Will be adding this story to my wish list.
Just poking my head in to say hi -- and taking a break from not plotting, myself.
As always, no need to enter me for things, ladies. I'm just saying hi.
Hi Marge -- If you have all the witch books and Prince of Magic, then you're missing Prince of Fire, Prince of Swords, and Untouchable. In that order. :-)
Thanks to all of you for stopping by and making me feel good! A writer without readers is a sad, sad being, indeed.
Why is the verification word sometimes so LONG? :-)
Linda
Intriguing excerpt, that last sentence is loaded. I've never read any of your books, but I will now!
Hi, Linda! great excerpt, I haven't read any of your books before but I will now! :)
Hahah, yep those verification words can be tricky!
I have not read this series yet, but from this blog, I will definitely be checking it out soon.
Your series sounds good. I will definately have to check them out.
This sounds like something I'd love to read. Thanks for introducing me to a new author!
Ohh wow great post Linda!!!
I have the book but haven't been able to read it yet.
hugs,
WendyK

Linda,
I enjoyed reading your blurb. Your book sounds wonderful!
congrats on publishing your 7th book in this series. It sounds good and I am serisouly going to go looking for the first book.
Thanks again to everyone for commenting! It was great fun to "meet" you all here. I would've checked in again sooner but I'm just back from grandparents day at my grandson's class. Grandchildren are my reward for not killing my kids when they were teenagers. :-)
My best to all of you. This was wonderful!
Linda
