Okay. Back now? Mouth closed? Heart settling down? Good. Take a deep breath. We wouldn't want to lose anyone.
Vikings. What is it about those fierce Norsemen that sets modern hearts racing? In real life, they struck terror into generations of women from Scotland to Spain. But in the covers of a romance novel, they are the ultimate alpha male lovers: dangerous, powerful, out to conquer, and willing to kill to protect their own once they have.
I never imagined I would be writing about Vikings. They weren't on my radar at all. And then one morning I awoke with the image of a man in my head–-tall, blond, powerful, clearly a warrior, and yet dressed in formal evening clothes. As I came to full wakefulness, I knew precisely four facts about this man: he was a thousand years old, he had been cursed to turn into a bear every day, he was a Viking, and I was already in love with him.
Hmm. Book. No, series, because as I started researching, I realized there were more of them–-nine, to be exact, because nine is a sacred number in Norse cosmology–-and that every one of them had been cursed to take on the animal form of his fylgja, his spirit companion. And then one day I sat down and a piece of the story spilled out, not in my voice, but in the voice of Ari, the warrior-skald (storyteller) who is one of them and who has recorded the story of the this immortal brotherhood throughout the thousand years. I knew what had happened, why they had been cursed, who had done this foul thing. And I knew how terribly lonely each man was.
So I started pulling together the whole series and quickly figured out that each man must live out his story in a different century. The first man out of the woods, it turned out, was not the bear, but the eagle, Ivar Graycloak, the hero of IMMORTAL WARRIOR. As a mercenary spy to the Norman kings of England, he lives on the edges of society, earning just enough silver to keep himself comfortable. But now he wants more. He asks for land, hoping to be able to have a place to call home, just for a little while, never expecting that with the land, the king will give him a wife.
What's a man who becomes an eagle every day supposed to do with a wife? Well, there are always the nights, and Ivar knows just what to do with those. What he doesn't count on is falling in love with the fair Alaida of Alnwick almost from the first moment. He knows he can never truly have her, and yet he can't bring himself to leave–-especially not when he learns of the unexpected danger he may have put her in. But what happens when she finds out who–-what–-he is?
You don't think I'm going to tell you here, do you?
Just know it's a happy ending, for I'm a firm believer in the idea that Love Conquers All. And know that there will be others. The second Immortal Brotherhood book, Immortal Outlaw, will be out in June '09, and there are seven more in the pipeline.

I adore HEA endings although I know that sometimes a book is better without them. Your book sounds cool!
Ilove a Viking hero, so fierce and arrogant, yet honorable and so protective of those they care about. What various centuries will the future ones in the series be, Lisa?
I am a huge fan of Vikings :op
They are just like you said the ultimate Alpha male. Rough around the edges and Confident, Strong willed and oh so loyal and fierce, and let's not forget totally built warriors. :oD
I think If I had to imagine one turning into an animal during the day i would pick a blue eyed wolf or a Golden eyed Mountain Lion.
Your book sounds very interesting and I will definitely look for it next time I'm in the book store.

I am also a fan of Vikings as romance heroes! Right now, "Eric Northman" on True Blood is one of my favorite characters both in the show and in Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse books. Tall, strong, blonde, muscular, arrogant and confident = YUMMY! LOL Bring on the sexy vikings Lisa! :)
You know, the way vikings are strong and powerful and aggressive I think they really lend themselves well to the paranormal, particularly the predator kind, LOL. It seems like someone should have thought of this before. Props to you Lisa, for your creativity. I'd really like to read about these shapeshifting vikings. Paranormal and historical are pretty much my favorite genres. :)
^liveexperiment@aol.com, sorry. Forgetful. Hehe, love your cover, by the way. The eagle wings are a great touch.
The story of Ivar and Alaida sounds fascinating. It will be interesting to find out how he will he get to know her yet keep her from finding out what he is. Talk about a secret life!
I'm hoping there will be a wolf in the crew. Love wolves!
And the cover model's chest looks just big enough! lol

Glad to hear so many of you are excited about my Viking immortals. More hearts for them to conquer!
So far, the beast wishes/guesses are spot on, except it won't be a mountain lion because those are North American. I had to keep my beasts to ones Vikings would know of in 850 or so. African/Asian lions would be a yes, though
As to time periods, pam p, the next one is set in 1290 Sherwood Forest. Later ones will be Border Wars, Elizabethan, Charles II, Georgian or Regency, Victorian...I intend to hit all the good historical periods, with the final two stories being contemporary. Juicy, but lots of research.
Congratulations on Immortal Warrior, Lisa! I just (10 seconds ago) downloaded my preordered e-version, and its going to the polls with me. I hope there's a line to vote, LOL!

Hi Lisa. I love Viking heroes. They are strong and confident and will do anything to protect their women.
I think an animal in the cat family would be good.
Immortal Warrior sounds great.
I've posted this at Win a Book. No need to enter the contest.
I don't think I have ever read anything about vikings. I've seen a few movies that intrigued me. Hmmm... sounds interesting. Sounds good... can I be entered?

i've seen another review of "immortal warrior" a while ago and liked it and thought that the book looks to be very interesting. it's great to have a chance to win this and the second one in the series, i would love to be entered
Good Morning Everyone and Welcome Lisa!! Congrats on such a fantastic book and I do hope book two is almost ready to be read. I'm going slowly crazy here with lust for it.
I can tell you everyone that this is not only fantastic but unusual and grabs you right from page one. Can you see the drool still falling from my lips. LOL! Yah I know, YUK! Drool covered face is not a pretty site but what causes it is.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day today and please do remember to get out there and vote. Not telling you that you have too but just jogging the memory. Hah, like you need that with it all over the tv.
huggs,
Terra
LOL, I love it when I hear a book's unusual. I always know I'm in for a ride. :D
Vikings are an awesome choise, proud, loyal, strong, sexy. I hope to see a wolf, too.

vikings! who would've t hought! most people go for the vampires or similar immortal creatures. I like that you chose vikings since they are an unexpected choice.
I enjoyed your interview and i look forward to reading your book!!
Vikings are a natural for shapeshifters. Their lore is filled with stories of Loki and the rest of the Asgard crew assuming other shapes to defeat Frost Giants and such. What fun!
My debut book MAIDENSONG (under Diana Groe) was about Vikings. (Clunking forehead a la having a V8 moment) Why didn't I think to add shapeshifters?
I love to read about Vikings!!! Your book sounds great!!!

I love vikings. My husband can date is family back to vikings, they even have a book printed about his ancestors it is really neat. Your book sounds great.
Vikings, eh? Since they're so big and strong (and presumably horny), how about a stag?
As a writer, I always like to hear about the thought process behind a book--this was just fascinating.

I love Viking tales.
I would think one of the warriors would turn into a wolf during the day.

I like that she states that Vikings were never on her radar...for often when I try to think of what to write, I'll stop myself when an idea pops up that is "not on my radar". Gives me hope!!
Thanks for this giveaway,

Congrats on the new release! I do enjoy reading Viking books. They are so strong.
Hi Lisa! Gosh this looks awesome!!! And indeed the cover is drool worthy!
I love HEA's! I usually read HEA, but I've read books of paranormal romance and Urban Fantasy that don't have the HEA in the book but have it in the continuing books. Its like their story grows on and takes more than one book to be a HEA. I love that this is going to be a long series, 7 books and maybe more!
On Vikings, yum. I know when I read the first one ever, it was a Sandra Hill historical one and you're so right, its the Alpha of them and too I love hanging on to every word and feeling of them! I absolutely am picturing them when I read them like your book cover. I'm exciting about these. Congrats on todays release!
I love Vikings also. :) I loved reading about their role in history.

Congratulations on this new release! Immortal Warrior sounds like a fabulous book and I'm definitely getting a copy.
I think the thing I like best about Vikings is their status as warriors. Honor and strength of both self and body was almost a motto for them. And I highly respect that.
I have a great many animals I hope fit into the series. The wolf of course, bear, tiger, etc. And what about dragons? They might be mythical but I love dragons.
I love your cover model. What's his phone number again? Just kidding.
Darn it, I forgot to include my email with my comment...

I like all those time periods, Lisa,so good for me. Even contemps that are time travel or have paranormal or pyschics or magic I like.
BTW, if you like Vikings, I, also, recommend those mentioned by Emily Bryan aka Diana Groe if you haven't yet read them.
I love the looks of this, been checking it out all over the place. LOL
