I'm just back from vacation in New Zealand (heard of it? Country in the Pacific Ocean, somewhere south of Australia? Where they filmed Lord of the Rings?) and let me tell you, there's not much the Kiwis don't know about living dangerously. From the perilous climb of Mt. Cook to the original bungy jump, the entire country seems obsessed with extreme sports.
About every tourist spot has some wild ride on offer, and the thrill of the adrenalin rush is amazingly seductive, even for a dorky homebody writer-type like me. While watching a twenty-something maniac throw herself off a bridge, gliding down a deep crevasse to touch the fast-moving river below, I felt an unaccountable urge to try the bungy jump myself. I didn't, because I figure a mother of two small children can't take risks like that, but oh, I was tempted. However, the jetboating, gondolier and luge rides made up for the lack of neck-breaking thrills.
Max, my hero in THE DANGEROUS DUKE, lives a very dangerous life but not by choice and definitely not for any thrills. He can't wait to leave the secret service but he has one more case to solve before he takes up the reins of the estate he's recently inherited. At the Home Office, they call him "The Fixer". They bring him in when a case is too sensitive to handle through official channels.
This time, there's a troublesome widow threatening to write a tell-a
ll memoir of all she's discovered about members of parliament during her late husband's political career unless her brother is released from jail. A troublesome, very beautiful widow, who Max would dearly like to know better under different circumstances. But when he steals the book he thinks is Lady Kate's memoir, it turns out to be a sizzling diary of a fantasy affair. The ruthless duke exploits his insider knowledge about Kate's sensual desires, but matters don't quite run to plan, and our hero finds the most dangerous thing of all is falling in love...There's something delicious about danger, isn't there? Even if it's only living vicariously through our favourite fictional thrill-seekers. Who's your favourite dangerous man--in novels, TV, movies? What's the most dangerous thing you've ever done? Christine will give away a signed copy of THE DANGEROUS DUKE to one lucky commentor!

A Dangerous Duke
Maxwell Brooke, Duke of Lyle, is hunting the arsonists who killed his family – and Kate's brother knows where they hide. But when jailing him proves futile, Max kidnaps Kate, demanding as ransom her brother's cooperation. Still, Max never counted on Kate's rapier wit and heated kisses – and soon, desire wars with duty, even as real danger stalks his captive lady...
A Delicious Deceit

Stealing the diary, he spirits her off to a country estate. But the diary is nothing like he expected – and when Max discovers Kate's sensual secrets, he can't resist exploiting them in every way...

Hey, is there a Golden Rooster here? Here, chicky, chicky, chicky!
Terra, thanks for inviting Christine over. I think she's "a major new talent." It says so, right on the front of the book! The Dangerous Duke is utterly delightful right from the opening when he's suspending a malefactor over a balcony railing by the ankles! How can you resist a man who can do that?
Oh, man, dangerous things! I'm a real scaredy cat although if I'm angry, I'm like a lion.
Hi, Christine! It's after 10 pm here in the states and I wasn't sure if it were Monday or Tuesday over there LOL.
As you know, I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED TDD, thrilled with the story, adored the characters and the HEA, of course.
Dangerous men, hmmmm, I'm beginning to fall in love with the new James Bond, Daniel Craig. I think it's because he's not traditionally handsome like the other Bonds have been, he's more rugged than suave and smooth, and he's definitely more physical. Craig apparently does most of his own stunts, with resultant injuries.
It's hilarious, really, when you think about it, because most of us would HATE our real life heroes to be mucking about and getting injured, taking risks and getting in scrapes.
But the fantasy is very powerful.
Hi Anna! Thanks for dropping in and for your high praise. I really appreciate it. The dangling by the ankles scene was a lot of fun to write!
And I can vouch for the lion thing. She's a pussycat normally but if you get on her wrong side, be very afraid!!
Jo, you're so sweet! Thanks for popping over. Ohh, Daniel Craig is just fabulous--in every role, not just the Bond ones. Can't wait for Quantum of Solace to come out.
I agree, it's the fantasy, and that's a big theme in THE DANGEROUS DUKE. How many of us would run a mile if our fantasies came to life?
I've posted this on Win A Book. No need to enter the contest.
Hi Christine! I loved, loved, loved THE DANGEROUS DUKE. Anyone who hasn't read this book should go straight out and buy it!
I'm not one for doing dangerous things. Truthfully, I'm pretty much a wimp when it comes to stuff like that. Forget the roller coasters. It's hard enough for me to gather the courage to step onto a 4th floor balcony. Seriously.
I'm a fraidy cat in real life, so I don't usually do anything dangerous. But I love shows where the characters are living on the edge -- whether it's being on the run in Prison Break, kicking supernatural butt in Supernatural, or exploring a galaxy far, far away on Stargate Atlantis. Speaking of Atlantis, I'm a big fan of Ronon Dex.
Morning Everyone and Welcome Christine!! Wow, it sounds like you have an excellent book here and I am going to have to get my hands on a copy. Anna sold me just on that little over the balcony by the ankles stunt. Sounds like a real hoot!
Great reviews everyone and I really don't know how I missed this book. I love seeing what the newer authors have and Christine you are most certainly on the too read list.
Will be in and out all day. If anyone needs me just yell and I'll get here asap.
huggs,
Terra
Ahhhhh Danger! Like you, Christine, I don't do a lot of dangerous stuff anymore since I'm the mother of two as well. :> I guess the most dangerous thing I've ever done is a firewalk - 40' of fire - at a Tony Robbins seminar in Hawaii. I also jumped off a 25' telephone pole to grab a trapeze at that event too (in a safety harness) which was actually scarier for me than the fire. :>
BTW I cannot WAIT to get to this book...I'm saving it for my treat when I hit the end of the current Mess-in-progress.
Oh, it's hard to think of the most dangerous thing.
If I think of my childhood, then it was definitely stealing candies from the small local shop (a dare challenge by other children of the neighbourhood)
when I grew up I tried to avoid dangerous things, even if I went to live twice for a year in a strange country and finally moved to a new place to start a family ;-)
The Most Dangerous thing.....well I have a passion for old run down nobody lives in them anymore houses...it's a dangerous passion for the last time I found one and entered it (always looking for that lost treasure you know!) there was an old man(?) sitting in the corner with a shotgun. I ran the heck out of dodge!!!
Book looks great!
Thanks
Darby

Christine, so great to see you here! I loved Pierce Brosnan in 'The Thomas Crown Affair'. Rich, intelligent, unpredictable--what's more dangerous than that? Oh, yeah, and sexy to boot. I'm not sure I could handle a man like that in real life, but I would be willing to try. *g*
As to dangerous things I've done, my kids have pushed me to do things I otherwise wouldn't have. As a teenager, I rappeled and spelunked, but as a mom I have rappeled, whitewater rafted and done low ropes, high ropes and ziplines through treetops and over river gorges. It was all great fun and the whole family enjoys it, so there may be more in my future.
It's kind of scary, sure, but I've learned to set fear aside and just do it anyway. Still not sure about the bungee jumping though...
As far as dangerous men go, I'd have to say James Bond. I, personally, don't do anything dangerous.
Me, along with a cousin, went skinny dipping with guys who were strangers to us in an alligator-infested river.
Deidre
okay, so far Deirdre's got the prize on danger...yikes! Alligators? Urg.
I forgot to say dangerous men...I'd have to agree w/ Caren, I think on Thomas Crowne. Not dangerous in the traditional "James Bond" sense, but sly, cunning and mentally dangerous for sure. :>
I'm also a sucker for the sci fi dangerous, like Riddick and the guys from Stargate and so on. Yummy to look at too...
Christine, isn't funny how we rethink our lives after having kids. Things we wouldn't have even thought of doing before suddenly seem far too dangerous. I'd love to tell you the most dangerous thing I've even done, but I honestly can't think of thing right now.
DD is at the top of my TBR pile, taunting me. Hopefully by the Thanksgiving weekend I'll be able to read it.
Super review!
I would absolutely LOVE to read and review Dangerous Delight!
Christine Wells is wonderful writer!!
Thanks so much for entering me!

Hi Bridget. Thanks for dropping in.
Ah, PJ, thank you for saying you loved THE DANGEROUS DUKE. Lovely to see you over here.
My husband has a height phobia (which is kind of ironic since he's 6'3!) He makes himself do things like go on chairlifts but he gets sweaty palms while he's doing it.
Hi Trish! Thanks for coming. I've never watched any of those shows but I've heard great things about Supernatural. I must try it.
Hi Terra, thanks for the welcome! Send me your snail address and I'll send you a copy of THE DANGEROUS DUKE as a thank you for hosting me today:) Hope you'll enjoy it!
Hi Jeanne! For everyone who loves danger (in fiction) Jeanne's DARK AND DANGEROUS should be right up your alley! It's romantic suspense at its best.
Jeanne, wow, you really have done some dangerous stuff. I think the fire would scary me more than the trapeze. Not your ordinary seminar by the sounds!
Ooh, Daniel, stealing candy--naughty, naughty! But I can identify with the danger of starting a family in a new place. I don't know what I'd have done without my mother and the network of support around me when I had my first baby. It's definitely not a time you want to be on your own.
Hi Darby! LOL about the old man with the shotgun. That would have moved me faster than a boxing day sale:) Thanks for commenting!
Wow, Caren, you are like Action Mom! I so admire you getting into all that physical activity with the kids. I'm sure they loved it, too.
Bungy or bungee jumping was invented by a New Zealander and we went to the place where it all started. The setting is so absolutely gorgeous, it was almost as seductive as the thrill. You know, if I go back, I think I will do it. I'm sure they haven't lost anyone...lately!
Hi Carol--aahh, James Bond. Great choice! Which one?
Deidre, OMG!! Yes, Jeanne, I think Deidre certainly takes the prize for most dangerous. Wonder where the most danger came from, though. The strange boys or the alligators!
Hi Christie, yes, we do grow more cautious as we mature and have kids, don't we? Or at least some of us do. Thanks for buying TDD. Hope you enjoy it!
Hi Bobbie, thanks for stopping by:)
I am sooo jealous that you went to New Zealand, talk about sexy accented men!!! This book sounds great as does the rest of the Dangerous series. As for your question about the most dangerous thing I have ever done... I don't think anything I have done has been that dangerous guess I am pretty lame!!
Hi Tamic, there are plenty of scrummy men in New Zealand, that's for sure! They love the outdoors and all that physical activity...well, you know what I mean. Thanks for dropping by.
What is the most risk daring thing that you have ever done?
I don't think that I have ever really done anything that would be considered really risk daring. I'm curious about you because you said you were really tempted about the bunji jumping.
Hi Tigger! I would have thought with a name like that you'd be bouncing right into danger:)
Yes, the bungy was a temptation, strangely. I've never been afraid of heights, but I don't know whether I'd really have had the nerve to do it!
I am a wimp--nothing dangerous to tell.
My favorite dangerous man has to be James Bond.
Hello fellow GR ladies.
Nice to see you here Christine!!!
Hmm, right now my favorite dangerous book character would be Edward in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I'm looking forward to the movie coming out on the 21st too! I have not done anything too outrageous, just scuba diving, roller coasters, and parasailing. Those are about as out there as I get lol. Your books sound great, Christine!

Estella, you're in great company!
Hi Dina, great to see you, too!
Hi Bamabelle, that's quite an impressive list! I think you're up there with the alligators.LOL
I haven't tried the Twilight series but it sounds fantastic. Thanks for commenting!
Dangerous thing I've done? We do plenty of hiking and some of the trails are very interesting.
Christine, I can not wait to dive into The Dangerous Duke! I plan on spending my weekend immersed in books and DD is at the top of that list :-)
The dangerous men I love are those pretty Winchester boys on Supernatural *g*
As for dangerous things, I'm with Anna - I'm a scaredy cat and prefer my life to be without death-defying thrills ;-)
I'm really looking forward to reading The Dangerous Duke. It sounds like the kind of book I love. :)
I am a real coward and avoid dangerous things--I don't even watch horror movies.
Hi Ellory! Hiking can be hairy sometimes, can't it? Thanks for commenting!
Thanks, Beth, I hope you enjoy The Dangerous Duke! The more I hear about Supernatural the better it sounds. I'm going to have to look into that:)
Hi Cynthya, that's great to hear you like the sound of The Dangerous Duke! I'm with you on the horror movies. I can't stand that stuff.
Hi Christine,
Favorite action hero right now is Michael from 'Burn Notice'. My son & I love him! Bruce Willis in the "Due Hard" series is another. I'm a scardy cat too. About the most dangerous thing I do is 4-wheeling way out in the country. However, I am very conservative in my play. I usually sit & watch as the hubby & son play in the big mud holes.
I love reading about it though!!
Have a great day,
Susan
