Holiday Gift Suggestions from Author Kim Lenox

Eeek! It’s Purple Tuesday! It’s almost Christmas! Do you have your shopping underway? Okay, okay … I made the phrase Purple Tuesday up … it sounds a lot less ominous than Black Friday.

I always enjoy reading or watching television shows where product recommendations are featured. I don’t watch much Oprah, but if I hear her “Favorite Things” giveaway is scheduled, I do my best to tune in. I’ve found some cool gift ideas for friends and family by watching those episodes. So when I came across this amazing product, I knew I had to share it with all of you at Yankee Romance Reviewers, just in case you had someone on your list that you still hadn’t bought for.

This gift item provides the ultimate in a virtual reality experience. Seriously, the Wii can’t touch it. Sensations … textures, scents, sounds, vivid colors and tastes? They’re all included, and require no expensive cartridge/refills. This product also provides chills, thrills and sighs like you wouldn’t believe.

The name of this marvelous invention is: the Book™©®.

Still not convinced that this is the perfect holiday gift? Here are a few other product details to consider:

A Book™©® can be used as a Time Machine, offering glimpses – and even allowing you to spend time with a variety of famous personages, long since passed. My book, NIGHT FALLS DARKLY allows you to share moments with Queen Victoria, Bram Stoker and Jack the Ripper, just to name a few. (All from the safety of your own seat). But that’s not all … if historicals aren’t your thing, the Time Machine function works just as well to sneak you into alternate realms, or even transport you into the future.

Books™©® come highly customized to suit user preferences. You can choose any “fit” – one size fits all -- or select a more specific, tailored version. And best of all … the Book™©® will never run out of batteries or charge, go out of stock, or expire. And you can be assured that the manufacturer won’t release a newer version next month with expanded bells and whistles, leaving your Book™©® obsolete.

If that isn’t enough to convince you, I’m providing the following price comparison:

The Nintendo Wii - $249.99

The Book™©® – 3.99 - $35.99 (Upgrades and additional options may increase the base price of your book by a nominal amount).

Happy Holidays everyone!

Kim Lenox, despite sometimes writing very corny blog posts, writes dark and sexy paranormal historicals – with a dash of wicked humor -- for NAL/Signet Eclipse. Her debut novel, NIGHT FALLS DARKLY: A NOVEL OF THE SHADOW GUARD, is currently available at your favorite bookstore. She invites you to visit her at
http://www.kimlenox.com/ and http://www.silkandshadows.com/.

Death is inevitable.
But there are some souls, more wicked and disobedient than most, who defy Death’s claim.
Rebellious souls who must be called to heel.

ARCHER, Lord Black, returns to England at the behest of Queen Victoria to immerse himself in the dark, hellish streets of London’s East End. Among the immortal Shadow Guard, he is the most prolific and cunning of the Reclaimers. He revels in the hunt of his current prey: an ill-mannered, reluctant soul reviled in the daily newspapers as Jack the Ripper. Archer has only one weakness … one distraction … the young woman he spared from death two years before.

ELENA WHITNEY has never wanted for anything – not since coming under the protection of her mysterious and absent guardian, Lord Black, who has gifted her with everything a young woman of quality could ever hope for, including an enviable address, an unlimited income and entrĂ©e into the drawing rooms of high society. But now, after nearly two years of indifference, he believes he can sweep into her life and rid himself of her by marrying her off. If he knew anything about her – anything at all – he’d know she had greater aspirations than that.

Lol! Trademarked, copyrighted and registered, hmm? I think you're on to something big!

No need to enter me for the prize; I already read NFD and loved it! The way you set foggy London made everything wonderfully sinister, and the scene where Archer goes to Elena as smoke... Well, no spoilers here, but it was shivery, for sure :)

Morning Everyone and Welcome Kim! Love the article and so true. I really do think that reading is so much better for the mind than those games and besides, you can buy how many books for the price of one Wii!!

I'm off to the espresso machine in order to wake up and start putting up Christmas decorations. Gotta get my behind in gear. I do hope you all enjoy Kim's article today and make sure and go to her website to read more about her book. YUMMY!

LOL, I totally agree with you. I would much rather get a book than a clothing article in the wrong size or another stupid scarf.

I love the cover of your book! I can certainly imagine a few dark nights with him. LOL

Dear Kim: Great blog! And I completely agree! Books always make a great gift - provided friends and family know what you like and vice versa :) Otherwise I might get stuck with a sports memoir. Eek! So gift certificates are always nice. People shy away from them because the "amount" is visible. But of course if you love books - any gift certificate is welcome! Your book "Night Falls Darkly" sounds like my kind of read. I just went onto your web site and checked out an excerpt. I love reading books set in the Victorian era. An era that had a foothold in the past and in the dawn of the future. And like many people I can't help but be drawn to the mystery of Jack the Ripper - perhaps one of the most macabre and horrific murderers of all time. Good luck with your book! I found out about you on Facebook. So glad for that!

Cheers,

Caroline - Yes! Wind howling, and crackling fire! Perfect reading (and writing) weather!

Patricia, Ddurance and Joanna! Thanks for coming by! I love the Victorian era -- there's so much that's interesting about it, and lots of "quirk"!

Sounds like an intriguing story! And I couldn't agree more - let's keep the pubs pumped this holiday season so writers can keep working! yay!

I enjoyed this book so much, I was scouring for another by Kim. 'Night Falls Darkly' was very unique even in the paranormal romance books. I've got a bit of time on my hands this month and have been consuming books @ 2 a day. I was really disappointed when my hubby could not find another Kim Lenox book at Borders or B & N. Looks like I will just have to wait like everyone else. (deep sigh)
Thank you for a unique book, plot and characters though!

This sounds right up my alley. I need a gripping book to lose myself in for a while. And foggy London suits quite well, indeed. Thank goodness for book review blogs. I've discovered so many new authors to read that I might not have otherwise known about.

Ann Marie,

I do have an excerpt for the next book, SO STILL THE NIGHT, on my website. It's hidden (my web designer and I were having fun with that!) but since you said such very nice things about NFD, I'll tell you where to look! If you go to my website, www.kimlenox.com and click on the big moon (where it says Shadow Guards) you'll find it!

The same excerpt can be found at the end of NIGHT FALLS DARKLY.

Lori C., Thanks so much for your comments about NFD! SO STILL THE NIGHT will be released in May 2009 and the third book (which I'm tentatively calling DARKER THAN NIGHT) will be out in early 2010. That will be Selene's story.

Val, about my storyline ... it evolved. I'd written a proposal where the character that eventually became Archer was actually the villain, and my agent told me he was just too intriguing, and needed to be the hero. She was right!

Another inspiration was the movie, MEET JOE BLACK. It's not historical, but I really enjoyed the paranormal slant, grounded in a very real reality.

Thanks to ALL of you who came by today! I really had a great time!

I love the cover for Night Falls Darkly. This one is going on my wish list.

I like shopping on the Tuesday and Wednesday after Thanksgiving because it's usually not too crowded.

There's nothing I'd rather get as a gift than books (well, other than huge amounts of cash--LOL.) I like to GIVE books, too.

Just reading the blurb made me want this book! I loved the interview as well.

I have a standard question I ask since it is something that plagues me personally.

How do you deflect distractions or keep them from happening at the start? Does your family keep you from writing?

I look forward to reading your book.

Hi Kim! Don't add me to your contest, I wanted to say hi and when's the next book? Smile!

My two children know that even with our gift exchange limit, I sneak in a book to them! They give me hints and all for weeks before Christmas! My son is a huge reader both of still YA and too of fantasy and thrillers. My daughter is not much of a reader but when she finds one author she reads them all and then nothing all year! LOL. But along with that, she loves coffee table books, especially those on cats! Hubby is similar to her and likes those related to cars and too autobiographies. Books are great to receive but I love giving them too!

Kim Lenox said...

Sue,

Oh, gosh, distractions. I certainly have them. They are ages 6 and 10 years old. *g* I also work a part time job for an accident reconstruction firm, and I volunteer too much. And it seems like the closer I get to a deadline, the more frenzied my distractions become. My husband is great in that he'll take the kids to visit the grandparents for a couple of weekends when I get closer to a deadline, so I get 2-3 days of uninterrupted writing time. I am a slow writer, and admit to having difficulty plotting and writing a book quickly. I do a lot of early morning and late night writing when the house is quiet.
