Wild Highland Magic Launch Day Party!

And we’ve achieved liftoff! Thanks so much to the lovely Terra for having me here today…I wouldn’t want to launch a book anywhere else. The MacInnes Werewolves owe her a great debt for loving them so much!

Today marks the official release of the final book in the MacInnes Werewolves trilogy, Wild Highland Magic. Lots of my lovely readers have asked me for Bastian’s story after first reading about him in Dark Highland Fire, where we all met him as the fiery heroine’s quiet, but powerful, big brother. Well, I’m happy to report that Bastian definitely had a story to tell (as evidenced by his hulking around in my mind, all big and icy blonde and, well, glaring at me), and Wild Highland Magic is my attempt to do it justice. I really hope you enjoy it!

Bastian an Morgaine, like most heroes, has both a need to save and, though he wouldn’t admit it, a need to be saved. As a young child in the otherworld of Coracin, he discovered that he was the last of a once-great line of ice mages on his father’s side, the Athin. That might just have been interesting information, except that at the same time his long-lost father was telling him this, he was getting ready to pass along the family curse, a soul-sucking shadow that will leave Bastian isolated emotionally until it one day consumes him whole and ends the line completely.

Lucky for Bastian, his mother is the great Elara, Dyana of the Tribe of Morgaine. The blood of a goddess runs in her people’s veins, and so in Bastian’s, keeping him stronger than he might have been. Still, while all his loved ones move on with their lives, Bastian is caught in time, struggling to free himself before he has any hope of having a real future of his own. In desperation, Bastian finally turns to an old enemy, the only one who may be able to help him gain the strength to win back his life. But dragons aren’t known for their kind dispositions. This particular one seems to be dying just to spite him. And though Bastian thinks he’s found the perfect hiding place in which to prepare for his final battle, he’s about to meet a beautiful, untrained werewolf who senses in him a kindred spirit.

Much like her obstinate Scottish cousins, Catriona MacInnes knows what she wants when she sees it…and in the case of Bastian, who stirs her senses as no man ever has, there is no way she’s going to take “no” for an answer. After years of her heritage being hidden from her by her father, the Pack Alpha's estranged brother, Cat has finally begun to discover the wonders of her family's homeland, and the joy of being accepted for who and what she is. But along with that, she's determined to get to the bottom of the mysterious illness suddenly plaguing her father...and even more determined to discover the secrets of the gorgeous, shadow-plagued stranger in the woods. Bastian knows he should push her away. The problem is, when Cat’s around, “no” doesn’t even seem to be in his vocabulary. Can these two conquer what lurks in the deepest shadow to find a future together? Maybe, with the help of an ornery dragon, Cat’s clever half-werewolf sisters, and just a little bit of Highland Magic…

Thanks so much for joining me here today, everyone! I’ll be in and out all day to chat, so please pop in to say hello! And as an added incentive, I’ll be giving away two signed copies of Wild Highland Magic to some lucky commenters, so don’t be shy:-) My question for today to get the ball rolling is, do you like reading connected books? And if you do, what are some of the best ones you’ve read? Okay, I’m about to pop the cork on the virtual champagne, stand back!

-Kendra

I'm hoping by connected you mean books in a series or spinoffs and such. If that's the case, I love reading them. You get to stay longer in that world with characters you love. Some of the ones I've loved are Karen Marie Moning's Highlander novels as well as her Fever series, Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series, the House of Night novels, Richelle Mead's Succubus series and Vampire Academy series, Christopher Paolini's Inheritence Cycle, and MANY more.

I love reading connected books. Because you get to find out what happened to some of the other characters in the stories. I loved Elizabeth Hoyt's Prince series and Shari Anton's Magic series.

I love reading connected stories! Stories where you get a glimpse of what happened to old h/hs and upcoming couples. Not as frequently when they are a continuation of each other.

Past favorites have been Christine Feehan (all), Stepanie Laurens, Jaid Black, Joanna Wylde, Lora Leigh, Maggie Shayne, Victoria Alexander, Lisa Kleypas, ...... I could keep going for days!

Good morning, ladies! Ooh, you've got some good favorites! I love Karen Marie Moning too, nightdweller...it was so awesome to finally see what happened to the sexy Adam Black:-)

Virginia and Kytaira, I agree, that's the fun, and that's why I tied my books to one another: I love peeking in on characters past, and the world is such a comfortable fit after being there already:-)

Blodeuedd, I love it! "Fantasy
Hussy"! I think I resemble that, LOL:-)

Congrats on your release day Kendra!
As to whether I like connected books, I suppose it depends on whether I like the first or not. Some of the ones that I loved are the Anita Blake series and the Harry Potter books.

Hi Susan! Thanks so much, I really appreciate it:-)

Hi BabygirlG...I hear you, as I am a complete Harry Potter fanatic. I have a Slytherin scarf. I actually wear it. This is maybe sad, but oh well:-)

Hi Cheryl! Thanks! And everyone, you all should check out Cheryl's books too, she rocks!

Hi Kendra! Scottish men and weres - sounds yummy! I love connected/series books. Some that immediately jumped to mind are the Slightly and Simply series by Mary Balogh; the Guardian series by Mary Jo Putney; the Cynsters by Stephanie Laurens; and the Velvet series by Jude Deveraux - more Higlanders! I don't have my book lists on this computer so can't think of the MANY others I have read and liked! I love being able to know some of the characters and learn more about others in further books.

Hi, Kendra. Congrats on your new release. Yes, I love books that are connected for the same reasons Nightdweller20 mentioned. I love being in that world and seeing what happened to the other characters I've fallen in love with. Your book sounds interesting. I've often read a book out of sequence in a series and gone back to read the other books because I couldn't get enough of the characters!

Hello Kendra, Long time no talk. I still need to get those books to you to sign. But military life is crazy once again. lol.

A very large CONGRATS to you on launch day. I can't wait to read the book.

As for series I love them. One of my favs is Sherrilyn Kenyon. I have been reading connecting books all of my life and I have a hard time reading stand alone books. I feel they lack the indepthness you can recieve from a connecting series.

Well good luck and once again thank you for sharing your world with us.

Hi Kendra. Happy release day. I loved your first book in this series. I enjoy connected books. Some of my favorites are
Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters, JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood, Stephanie Lauren's Cynsters, and Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling novels.

Hi MarthaE! Oh yeah, I have a thing for Highlanders too...love that I get to write about them! Something about big sexy men in kilts...

Hi Ester! Yes, that's happened to me too, reading a book out of sequence and then running off to find the rest. I LOVE discovering new series!

STEPH! I'd been wondering about you! Hope all is well there, sorry military life is as insane as usual. Whenever you want to send those books, just write me and I'll get you the new address, because we've moved (speaking of insanity). I'm so glad to hear from you!

Hi CrystalGB...I'm a Stephanie Laurens fan too, eeeeeexcellent choice:-) Glad you enjoyed the first in my series!

Hi Kendra,

First off, congratulations on your new release. Story sounds pretty good.

I love connected & series books. I love catching glimpses and updates on characters from previous books as well as learning more about previously mentioned secondary characters in their own books. Anything by Stephanie Laurens (loved those Cynsters...up to 17 books now); Sabrina Jeffries, Liz Carlyle, Elizabeth Boyle, Lisa Kleypas, Eloisa James and all her duchesses, Jenna Petersen, Candice Hern (loved her Merry Widows Trilogy), Julia Quinn's Bridgertons, and so many, many more.

I'm just finishing up with the last book in the Mistress trilogy by Tracy Anne Warren and they are excellent stories BTW! Next, I'll start reading Robyn DeHart's Ladies of the Amateur Sleuth Society series.

Congratulations on your new release, Kendra!

I do love reading connected books. Most of the ones I read are series. One of my favorites is C.L. Wilson. I do like to read single title books too. It's nice to know that that is the only book I have to read to get the full story!

I do have your first two in this series!

Afternoon Everyone and Welcome back Kendra!!! I have to say that Wild Highland Magic is just as good as the other books in the series if not better. Kendra got a little snarky in this one and it is oh so funny. I have about 75 pages left and am trying to put it off cause I don't want it to end. Whaa!!

For all my loyal followers out there, Sourcebooks has even used a quote of mine on the front cover. Yipee! Kendra emailed me as soon as she found out and I was like a kid in a candy shop I was so happy. So you guys just have to go and get the book. One because it's better than excellent and two because of the Yankee Romance Reviews name on the cover with my wonderfully delightful quote.

Kendra, are you going to do something with Poppy and her snarky dragon friend? I hope so!

Hope you all have a great day. I'm going to do some heat treatments and then excercise them hands.
huggs,
Terra

Karen, WOW, I am in awe of your reading prowess! One of the unfortunate side-effects of becoming a writer has been that my reading time has been cut down substantially. WAAHH! I did pick up the new Nora Roberts the other day, though, and I'm determined to find the time to curl up with it!

Hi Amy C! I know, sometimes it IS good to just get everything in one story, LOL!

Hi tetewa! Thanks for the congrats! Haven't read them, but I have heard LOTS of great things about Stephanie Plum:-)

Hey, Terra! You're on my cover because you are AWESOME, of course!! Thanks so much for having me here on my launch day...and I'm so glad you loved the snark! Lucien just refuses to behave any other way, which is why he's (shh, don't tell anyone!) my favorite:-)

Congrats. I don't like connected stories if I should have gone back to the beginning. If they can stand alone and I can choose whether to go back, then it's okay.

Kendra Leigh Castle said...

Hi scottsgal, thank you! And MJ, it definitely can be hard when you pick up a book that turns out to require pre-reding. I've been told that my books can stand alone (which is what I intended), so don't be afraid of trying any of them!:-)

Hi Kendra,
congrats on the release! I love your books and I've been waiting for this one!
I love reading connected books, it's like visiting old friends and I want them all to have their own HEA. One of my favorite series is Jillian Hunter's Boscastle Family.

Hi Eva! Nice to see you!:-) It is like visiting old friends, even for the writer...I actually miss my characters when I've finished their stories, so writing a series or trilogy is ideal for me, and probably what I'll always do.

I like reading connected stories, especially about co-starring marginal characters that get stories of their own. Since I just finished reading them, and they are fresh in my mind, I would say the DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons are at the top of my list. I also liked the Bride Series from Catherine Coulter.

Happy release day Kendra!! I so love series and connecting books. I just don't want to leave the 'world' developed for them! These are one of them. I get so excited when the next book is out and then when the promo is happening before it comes out, LOL. I know its alot of work on you, but know its exciting Kendra!

There are so many connecting/series I love to read, and one recently was starting the new vamps, but still connected to the other series, Rogue Hunters by Lyndsay Sands.

HI, everybody! Wow, this place is hoppin' this evening! I love hearing what you all have been reading. Even though it is hazardous to my already giant TBR pile:-)

I heard a vote for Nora...I just got her new book, Vision in White, and I'm loving it so far! Nora is totally my literary comfort food:-)

And Caffey, it's great to see you here!! You know I'm so thrilled to have you reading my books. And I have to agree on Lynsay Sands, she's awesome!

I just posted a review of this book here with a link over to this post. No need to enter me in the contest (though I would love to win the first 2 - hint, hint). I love to read books in a series - and lately I have been starting some good ones - Kate Perry - Marked by Passion - awaiting the second book, Nora Roberts, Sign of Seven Trilogy - (and I actually reading the last book of the Harry Potter series right now). Best of luck with the launch and I will be on the lookout for more from you!

Kendra, your series sounds fabulous! How can you go wrong with werewolves and Scotsmen?

I've enjoyed so many connected books - and series. Lorraine Heath's connected books are amazing, and I've been reading Kathryne Kennedy's "series" as well.

Have a wonderful weekend, and best wishes for your continued success!

Nancy Haddock

"who stirs her senses as no man ever has" yum! I want to read more about him.

Congratulations on your release! I hope you reach the stars with this one.

I'm a big fan of connected stories. When you like the characters, you want to read more about them. Some of my favorite connected books are Cynster series by Stephanie Laurens, JD Robb "In Death" series and the Wilde series by Janelle Denison.

Ashley said...

Congrats on your release! That's so exciting!

Yes, I love books in a series. I enjoy them because the plot is more complex and usually more thought-out since it's a longer storyline. Also, you get to connect and understand the characters better since they are in more than one book.

I'm a little late but I wanted to say congrats to Kendra, awesome launch party!

I am very lucky because my good friend Terra sent me Dark Highland Fire and Call of the Highland Moon for a book exchange we are in. *love*

Kendra, your writing is fantastic! And yeah, I enjoy books that are connected because it gives me more time in the world created by the author.

cheers and hugs, Lemonitsa

Wow, lots of night owls showed up after I left! I actually stayed up too late too, but I was buried in that Nora Roberts book I mentioned. I'm so bad with the not putting books down until they're done! It was really sweet, though:-) Ugh, my eyes hurt this morning, LOL...

Kristi, I want to say THANK YOU for the lovely review! I'm so glad you enjoyed the book, and I'm really flattered that you thought it was a stand alone...it's a great compliment! Hope you enjoy the first two just as much:-) And lookout for that last Harry Potter book...it was amazing, but I cried a lot during the reading of it! JK Rowling is a goddess.

Nancy, thanks! Yeah, IMO, there's prety much no way you can go wrong with Highlanders. I've been maybe a teensy bit partial ever since Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod rocked my world, LOL!

Kammie, I second your love of the "In Death" series! And Bastian is yummy, I promise:-) Thanks for the good wishes!

Hi Ashley! Thanks! And I love the added complexity of the series arc layered over the arc of each individual book too. Though it was funny, somehow I was still surprised, while writing my own, that I wound up needing to keep track of people, places, events, etc., in a file so I wouldn't get mucked up. I guess I just thought I would remember everything perfectly, and, um...no. But I try!

Llehn, thank you! And you've put it perfectly...that's exactly how I feel too!

Lemonitsa, thank you so much! Hearing someone loves my characters always makes my day:-) Glad you came over!

I must say I love to read connected books! Many times after you have truly enjoyed reading a well written book you have built quite an attachment a a particular character, family or location, you really hate to let it go=)
I've particularly enjoyed the Harry Potter series and several Nora Roberts(J.D. Robb) series.
Please enter me for this book, I think I'd enjoy it!
