Back To School Thrills by Tawny Weber

A huge thanks to Terra and everyone here at Yankee Romance Reviewers for welcoming me back! I’m thrilled to be hanging out with you all today – talk about a great way to spend a Thursday. The only way better, of course, is curled up with a good book, right?

Which is one of my major goals for the month of September –to relax and read. It was a very long, very intense and stressful summer. And because its back-to-school month, September always makes me think of fun. Shopping for new clothes and shoes. Hitting the aisles to pick out the perfect binder, pencils and other awesomely necessary school supplies. The fresh excitement of a new year and all the possibilities it held. And seeing old friends, making new ones. Of course, there’s always the flipside to September. The dread of back to school. The angst of not quite fitting in, not feeling comfortable and wanting to be anywhere—even doing chores—than there at school.

Back to school is the theme of my newest Blaze release, as well. FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME kicks off the Dressed to Thrill series and is a going back to the past story – with the heroine, Zoe Gaston attending her ten year high school class reunion. Zoe was one of the dreading school type of kids, so attending a reunion is the very last thing she wants to do. But somehow she’s conned into not only the reunion, but the costume party that goes with it. When her costume is mixed up and she receives a dominatrix getup instead of the sweetly cute Betty Boop she’d ordered, she figures it’s the perfect way to show the classmates who voted her ‘girl most likely to die a virgin’ just how far she’s come... so to speak.

Now Zoe’s out to prove a thing or two, including that she’s more than ready to take on the hot, sexy masked hunk who seduces her in the garden. And in doing so, find out just exactly who’s beneath that mask driving her crazy.

Excerpt:

As Zoe stared up at him, wishing she could see the color of his eyes in the evening light, his laughter faded. His gaze narrowed and he stepped closer.

“You don’t look like you believe me,” he murmured, his words low and musical.

“I’ve been called challenging plenty of times,” she admitted, her head spinning as her body reacted to the closeness of his. “But never gorgeo
us.”

“But you are.” He reached out, his hand fisted, and rubbed his knuckles over her cheek. Zoe damn near purred.

“Maybe you just have a leather fetish,” she suggested.

“Maybe I’d like to try a few fetishes with you and see how they feel,” he said, his words low and intense.

The image of the two of them, naked except for his mask and her boots, filled her mind. Zoe swallowed, her pulse racing so fast she felt like it was going to pound its way out of her throat. Was he Brad? Confusion swirled through the desire filling her brain. Hadn’t one of the twins mentioned Brad had gone to England? Was that an English accent? He obviously knew her. She couldn’t imagine any other guy at the reunion would flirt with her like this.

His hand left her cheek. Zoe bit her bottom lip to keep from pouting. Then he wrapped both hands around the edges of the cape he’d wrapped around her shoulders.

The cloth bunched over his fists, he used them to tilt her chin up.

“I’d want you even without the leather,” he said.

Her grin was fast and wicked. “Naked, you mean?”

He groaned, then laughed. Zoe’s heart tripped a little. So few guys could handle her smart mouth, let alone appreciate it while they were trying to make a move. But Super Sexy? He just shook his head and grinned. His lips still curved with humor, he held her gaze captive as he lowered his mouth.

Her breath caught. Then her mind went blank. His lips rubbed gently over hers. Warm, soft, intoxicating. Almost sweet, except for the sexual flare of heat zinging through her body. Her nipples hardened, her legs went lax. She grabbed his waist for support, her head falling back as he shifted from soft and sweet to hard and wild.

Zoe gasped, instantly aching and wet as his tongue took hers. God. She’d never had a kiss like this. So hungry and intense, she could barely keep up. Instead of trying, she gave over to the power of his demanding mouth. Let herself freefall with the swirling passion tightening in her belly.

Who knew the wrong costume could garner such a perfect prize?

How about you? Did you fall into the happily anticipating back to school or the totally dreading back to school camp? Leave a comment for a random chance at winning a copy of FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME.

When I was in the K-8th grades I think I always looked forward to school starting...lots of new clothes and hooking up with friends I had not seen all summer.

My freshman year in high school...I could not wait for the bell to ring!!!

But it didn't take long before I was looking forward to vacation time and dreaming of being an "adult" and living on my own. (Not having to take orders from anybody....I thought)

By the time I was a senior I was asking my mom "Do I have to move out when I graduate?" Boy, how things changed!!!

So, I guess I'm in both camps depending on my age.

Thanks for the contest!!!

When I was in grade school, I always dreaded school starting.. but now that I'm in college, I really look forward to it. I love going back to school shopping, buying brand new notebooks, pens, pencils, sharpies, highlighters.. I don't like to spend the money, mind you, but I love to shop for it all!

I think even when I'm done with school, I'll still enjoy it.. I hope so, at least!

Enter me, please!
Thanks!

I just want to add....That while I was a junior in high school, I met my love of my life (on a blind date) and married him just after graduation....36 years as of Sept. 1st.

I know we were young and most of our friends that married when we did are (no) longer married. But sometimes things just work out OK!!!

Isn't that the beauty of romance novels??? They give you hope against all odds.

Hi Tawny

I always loved the start of a new year at school the challenge getting together with friends and making new ones. Our school years starts at the end of January here in Australia and it is so hot but yes I loved getting back but I was then always looking forward to the next break when I was at school we had 3 terms now they have 4 so there are always school holidays.

Love the sound of this new book.

Have Fun
Helen

I was always a little sad that summer vacation was over and school was back in session. I dreaded the first day of school. I was nervous about reconnecting with old friends and wondering if I'll make new ones.

I was ok with school til 9th grade. Once in high school, I couldn't wait to get out. I don't think I truly ever fit in. Too many clicks for my taste even then, I knew where I was not welcome. I'm glad I never have to go back. Have a great day.

I get very nervous and excited for school. The excitement builds up and it turns into butterflies. I worry about my professors and how hard the class will be. No matter how prepared for class, I always feel a bit scared thinking I might not be. Summer has been boring this year so I enjoy school a lot more.

Happily anticipating it? HA! More like "you'll have to drag me, kicking and screaming, if you want to get me back into that building, mom!"

Though I've heard rumours that I actually looked forward to starting JK. It all seemed to go downhill after that, though.

Hi, Tawny! I've always had mixed feelings--I enjoyed the preparations (hey, I *still* love school supplies ;)) but the actual getting there and meeting new people and learning the new schedule and the new teachers and the homework? Not so much ;p And so it continues--this year's the first that all of my kids are in school for at least a couple hours a day. Now I'm excited ;) Maybe I'll have more time to read! (Heh!) Looking forward to FLtFT!

The only time I didn't dread school starting was in elementary school, other than that I dreaded school starting. My birthday also falls on the first week of school and boy I dreaded my birthday as well because it meant school was back in session.

It was a mixture of both for me.

Since my kids are grown, back-to-school has no real meaning for me anymore. And as I recall, I really didn't look forward to back-to-school until I was in Senior HS (9th-12th grades)...that's when I really started to enjoy school.

I was definately ready for school to start each August. I liked school and learning new subjects. Once spring hit I was ready for a break, but sometimes summer seemed too long!

I love back to school! Or, I should say, I love when my kids go back to school *g*

Okay, to be honest, this year was bitter sweet since my oldest is a senior (sob) and my middle one a freshman in high school.

But I do love all that wonderful quiet to write in during the day
:-)

btw, my older daughter matched her binders and folders, a different color scheme for each class. Shades of anyone you know?

I love that excerpt! Actually, I love this entire book. It's such a fun, sweet and oh, so sexy story!!

I never could decide if I was anticipating it or dreading it so I usually settled for indifference. Heh!

I always dreaded going back to school.

I think the "going back to school" feeling is a unique blend of dread and anticipation. Of course, the better Summer vacation you had, the more you had to talk about! If you had a major crush whom you didn't get to see during Summer break, your eyes immediately sought him out on the first day back at school. What a feeling! Hi Tawny, great to see you here!

And I'm going to sound like a geek, but I actually liked school. I liked my classmates and the classes weren't too bad. Now I'm going to sound even weirder, but I particularly enjoyed the lunch hour. Talking and eating are among my favorite things.

I think it was a combination of dread and excitement when school started, especially in high school.

Just posted about this on Win A Book.

Wow - it looks like the love and dread columns are pretty evenly matched! I was in the dread column, personally *g* which probably comes through in Zoe's attitude about going to her reunion LOL.

Thanks so much, everyone, for the wonderfully fun day and all the comments. It was cool to hear your reactions to school. I hope you'll check out FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME and let me know your reaction to IT!!
