Lora Jones has always known that she’s different. On the outside, she appears to be an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl. Yet Lora’s been keeping a heartful of secrets: She hears songs that no one else can hear, dreams vividly of smoke and flight, and lives with a mysterious voice inside her that insists she’s far more than what she seems.
England, 1915. Raised in an orphanage in a rough corner of London, Lora quickly learns to hide her unique abilities and avoid attention. Then, much to her surprise, she is selected as the new charity student at Iverson, an elite boarding school on England’s southern coast. Iverson’s eerie, gothic castle is like nothing Lora has ever seen. And the two boys she meets there will open her eyes and forever change her destiny.
Jesse is the school’s groundskeeper—a beautiful boy who recognizes Lora for who and what she truly is. Armand is a darkly handsome and arrogant aristocrat who harbors a few closely guarded secrets of his own. Both hold the answers to her past. One is the key to her future. And both will aim to win her heart. As danger descends upon Iverson, Lora must harness the powers she’s only just begun to understand, or else lose everything she dearly loves.
(Terra's Review) This book was initially set to release in August 2012 but looks like it has changed to April of 2013 and I really feel for those of you who must wait. This book is nothing less than exceptional. A paranormal romance in Young Adult format that is sure to please even the pickiest of readers. I really cannot tell you how much I adored this story and hope to see more like this from such a talented author.
Lora Jones has been through the worst sort of horrors that could possibly befall a child. Orphaned, cast aside for only God knows why, she is tortured in ways that today's society would cringe at but yesteryear's society deemed necessary.
She is a plain child but one who hears voices and hears songs that no one else can hear. She ends up in an institution where the unspeakable happens and she's very lucky to be one of those who survived the ordeal. Or is she?
Now sent on to a finishing school for the elite only because the school must accept one charity case to meet the requirements of it's sponsor, Lora (Eleanor) gets a new lease on life which will take her to places no even the most insane could ever think of.
This is a story of fate. Of a prophecy told to the Heaven's that must be fulfilled and a love triangle that could make or break what has been long for told. A story during a challenging time during World War I that can only make you thankful that you were not there and to pity those who were. A story that will bring tears to your eyes only to send a wee smile to your lips before it reawakens the tears of sadness once again and leave you satisfied but longing for what has been, is and what is to come.
